David Reed

David L. Reed L’85

David Reed has practiced international law for nearly 30 years, helping clients around the globe identify risks, license technology, and manage growth opportunities. His focus has been pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturing and regulations. As in-house counsel for Bristol-Myers Squibb and Bayer, he negotiated supply contracts, resolved employment disputes, conducted inspections and investigations, and handled regulatory matters for facilities in the US, EU, and Asia.

At ImClone, Reed led the successful defense of an international arbitration claim valued at more than US$1 billion. As Osteotech’s first General Counsel, he conducted a Sarbanes Oxley investigation and helped the company navigate the implementation of FDA medical device regulations— for the first time ever— to its entire portfolio of human bone and tissue products.

Founded in 2007 by Reed, Reed CNY Business Law PC serves clients ranging from large, international healthcare companies to tech start-ups located throughout the US, Germany, Switzerland, Finland, and South Korea, where it has an office and several shared clients with the OhKims Law Firm in Seoul.

Reed also arbitrates, advises pro bono non-profit clients, and participates in state and local economic development initiatives. He holds a patent for a product that assists in the repair of human tissue during joint replacement.

Currently an adjunct professor teaching International Business Transactions at the College of Law, Reed is Vice President and Director of the Entrepreneurial Society of Central New York. He is also Advisory Board Member for the Northeast Hawley Development Association, Board Member of the New York State Association of Incarcerated Education Programs, and Secretary of the Serenity Women's Center.

Professor Reed received his B.A. in Government Studies from Dartmouth College in 1978 and his J.D., with a concentration in International and Real Estate Law, from Syracuse University College of Law in 1985. He is admitted to the bar in New York, Florida, and Massachusetts, as well as to the First Circuit Court of Appeals and Northern District for the Second Circuit.
